Christmas Holidays
Monday 19 December
We wish all our clients a Merry Christmas and a peaceful new year.
Instead of sending Christmas cards, this year we are making a donation to the Ashiana Network, a charity supporting women from the Asian, Iranian and Turkish communities who are experiencing domestic violence.
Our office will close for the holidays from 5.30pm on Friday 23rd December and will re-open at 09.30am on Tuesday 3rd January 2012.

Goodman Ray lawyers Jemma Dally and Kevin Skinner led a seminar at the NSPCC’s PINC group’s annual conference, “We are family… living with difference”.
Focusing on the needs of LGBT families, Goodman Ray was delighted to talk PINC members through the legal issues involved in becoming a parent through fertility treatment, co-parenting, adoption, fostering and surrogacy. Payments to Surrogates

A report on BBC Radio 4’s World at One gave anonymised details about a surrogacy case where a parental order was granted despite the compensation payment made to the American surrogate. Each case is decided on its own facts, so this decision should not be taken to mean that there is any change in the law in England and Wales. People thinking about surrogacy should still be extremely cautious about making payments to potential surrogates. Visitors to the Alternative Families Show in London on 17 September had a chance to meet the Goodman Ray team and pick up a copy of our new guide “Becoming a Parent?”. The guide gives an overview of the legal issues involved in becoming a parent through fertility treatment, co-parenting, surrogacy, adoption and fostering. We also ran a seminar at the show giving our Top 10 Tips for people considering parenthood through surrogacy, IVF and adoption.
It was great to meet people at the really exciting stage of considering all the options and thinking about the right choices for their families. Legal issues are often the last thing on people’s minds so we love being able to help them avoid some of the common pitfalls so it all goes smoothly.
