What is an adoption order?

An adoption order is made by the court and gives that adopters legal parental status, the same as if the child was born to them. An adoption order ends the parental rights of the birth parents. To apply for an adoption order in England and Wales you must satisfy the requirements in respect of your age, where you permanently live (known as your habitual residence or domicile), and the length of time that the child has been living with you.

Normally, adopters are helped through the adoption process by their local authority however there are times when a case is not so straightforward, and in those circumstances our adoption solicitors can advise and represent you at all stages of the adoption process.

Post Adoption Advice and Support

Our adoption solicitors can also provide advice and support to families once an adoption order has been made by the court in respect of all issues that may arise including post adoption contact matters, issues relating to post adoption support from the local authority, and in circumstances where a placement has broken down.

International Adoption Solicitors

Many parents explore international adoption or foreign adoption orders made in other countries to complete their families. The rules relating to international adoption and foreign adoption are complex, making this a highly specialist area of law that can involve intricate immigration and regulatory issues.

If you require more information about international adoption or foreign adoption orders please contact our expert adoption solicitors on 020 7608 1227 or contact us online and one of our team will call you back to discuss your matter.

What is International Adoption?

International Adoption is the adoption of a child from another country. This can also be referred to as Inter-country Adoption. Children are typically adopted from orphanages as their birth parents have been unable to care for them. This can be due to financial constraints and emotional issues, for example.
