Charles is a CILEX lawyer and specialises in the law relating to children. He represents parents and wider family members in both public and private law proceedings.
Charles began his career at a local authority where he developed a keen interest in child protection law and procedure. His roles provided unique exposure to the governance of Serious Case Reviews and LADO investigations.
Since moving into private practice, Charles has represented local authorities, parents and intervenors in public law proceedings. He is instructed in a range of complex cases, including where there are allegations of non-accidental injuries, domestic abuse and sexual abuse. Many of Charles’ cases overlap with criminal proceedings or have an international element.
Charles is regularly instructed in private law cases concerning child arrangements, often where there are allegations of domestic abuse and/or alienating behaviours. He is also instructed in relocation cases and in proceedings under the inherent jurisdiction of the High Court. Charles has a growing ‘modern families’ practice and has been instructed in some of the leading cases concerning conception, legal parentage and parental responsibility.
Charles has established legal clinics at a number of prisons, providing free legal advice in relation to family law matters. He is also an SRG Advisor to CILEX, informing policy and practice decisions. In 2025, Charles was named Young Solicitor of Year at the Family Law Awards.
