A decis\u00e3o confere aos tutores especiais uma maior responsabilidade parental pela crian\u00e7a, embora devam continuar a consultar os pais da crian\u00e7a sobre decis\u00f5es importantes para a vida da mesma. Existem algumas restri\u00e7\u00f5es, por exemplo, o tutor especial n\u00e3o pode alterar o apelido da crian\u00e7a nem retir\u00e1-la do pa\u00eds por um per\u00edodo superior a tr\u00eas meses, exceto se obtiver o consentimento escrito de todas as pessoas com responsabilidade parental.
