International Human Rights Day<\/a>, celebrated yearly on 10th<\/sup> December, commemorates the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights<\/a> (EDHR) \u2013 a landmark affirmation that every person, everywhere, is entitled to dignity<\/strong>, justice<\/strong>, equality<\/strong>, et freedom<\/strong>. The Universal Declaration of Human Right (UDHR) is a milestone document: the first universal statement to define the basic principles of human rights, available to all regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or any other status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each year, a theme is chosen to draw attention to a particular facet of the efforts to uphold human rights. In the past years, these themes have included putting an end to discrimination, fighting poverty, and protecting victims from human rights violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Human Rights Day 2025 Theme: \u201cOur Everyday Essentials\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This year, the UN Human Rights Day campaign focuses on \u201cOur Everyday Essentials\u201d<\/strong>. The theme draws attention to the simple, daily actions made possible by human rights in practice \u2013 such as drinking clean water and living safely, accessing education, or expressing one\u2019s views freely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our everyday human rights are deeply rooted in the UHDR, examples being the right to an adequate standard of living, including guarantees of food, basic needs and a health environment (Article 25<\/a>), the right to freedom of opinion and expression (Article 19<\/a>), the right to education (Article 26<\/a>), the right to respect for your family and private life, your home and your correspondence (Article 8<\/a>) ,and so forth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The campaign emphasises that human rights are \u2018positive, essential and attainable\u2019<\/strong>. Human rights not only protect, but they also enrich and uplift our daily lives \u2013 from the food we eat to the opportunities we pursue. Human rights unify us across our differences, and importantly, these are attainable through collective actions, advocacy, and legal protections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
